PERRANPORTH AIRFIELD

Perranporth Airfield, the last unspoiled Spitfire Station in the world and hold it within a dedicated Trust for posterity.

It is planned to be restored as a working museum specializing in the history and operation of Spitfires.

‘The airfield will be restored and become a fully working museum specialising in the history and operation of Spitfires.

Modern and interactive, visitors will be able to experience a wartime fighter airfield. As a ‘living’ museum; general aviation, aircraft servicing and maintenance will be encouraged – Britain’s Spitfires will not be mothballed! We will encourage people to use the airfield safely as a community and cultural tourism resource, enjoying the coastal walks, heritage trail, visitor centre and, of course Spitfires.’

Perranporth airfield was built especially to operate Spitfires and has been in continuous use for general aviation since released into private ownership at the end of the war.

It is a licensed airfield with serviceable hard runways and taxiways, although most of the original temporary buildings have been dismantled, the bases are substantially intact.’

The purchase of the airfield and the later development of museum and visitor facilities can only be achieved through attracting sponsors.
