The Spitfire Heritage Trust
and your pride in the
Commonwealth......
This beautiful model for our pin badge was originally hand sculpted in great detail
by artisan sculptor
Mark Stickells.
Silicone moulds were taken and used to hand cast each model using pewter, which is then plated with 22ct gold.
The Spitfire Heritage Trust pin badge is only being made by one company and here's why .....
Our pin badge production partners are Westair, a family business whose founder was a pilot whose father flew in the newly formed RAF.
The manufacturing company is based in Birmingham, home of the original Castle Bromwich Spitfire works.
Many of the current Westair staff have family members who worked in the Birmigham factories during the war including the Spitfire works. A miniature
model from these works is at Westair and inspired them to produce their early Spitfire models.
These first models were presented at a corporate function at RAF Duxford many years ago. Son of renowned aircraft designer and ‘father of the Spitfire’ R J Mitchells happened across one. He kindly wrote in a letter of congratulations to Westair on the accuracy of the model.
